President Nikos Christodoulides will travel to the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday to meet the country’s President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The pair will discuss matters including recent developments regarding the Cyprus problem, the ongoing situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, bilateral relations, and prospects for cooperation in matters of energy, the economy, and investments.

Christodoulides will be joined in the UAE by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, European Affairs Deputy Minister Marilena Raouna, and the director of his diplomatic office Doros Venezis.

He will return to Cyprus on Thursday.

Wednesday’s meeting is the latest in a series of high-level meetings between members of the two countries’ governments, with Deputy Tourism Minister Costas Koumis having been the most recent Cypriot to make contact with his UAE counterparts, travelling to Dubai in May.

He said at the time that the number of tourists from the UAE travelling to Cyprus is “steadily on the rise”.

“Last year saw a 14 per cent rise in arrivals from the UAE, and we are pleased to see the possibility of a significant increase again this year,” he added.

He described tourists from the UAE as a “highly interesting market” which “remains steadily on an upward trajectory.”
