The forthcoming Davis Cup tennis matches between Israel and Ukraine will take place at the Herodotou Tennis Academy in Larnaca.

Israel had been the designated home team for the fixture, but, due to the ongoing armed conflict in the region, they were unable to play in their own country.

With this in mind, a delegation from the Israel Tennis Federation visited Cyprus three months ago to inspect the facilities, after an agreement to play the fixtures in Cyprus had been reached in principle with the Cyprus Tennis Federation and the Cypriot government.

The matches will take place on Friday and Saturday, and will all take place behind closed doors, with around 100 nominal spectator credentials being handed out to members of both countries’ delegations and the public not being allowed to enter the facilities.

The Cyprus News Agency said this decision had been made “for security reasons”.

The matches will be televised live in Israel, and for this reason, an Israeli television crew has arrived on the island.

Israel are ranked 27th in the world, while Ukraine are ranked 35th in the world.
