A special guest will arrive on the island on November 21, on the occasion of the upcoming match of the Cyprus national team with the silver medalists in the recent Olympic Games, and EuroBasket 2022, France, which will take place in the ‘Eleftheria’ indoor hall.

The FIBA ​​EuroBasket trophy will travel to Cyprus those days, giving the opportunity to the fans to see it up close!

As co-host of the FIBA ​​EuroBasket 2025, Cyprus will be among the destinations of the official trophy tour of the event which will take place in 2025.

However, an initial arrival of the trophy in 2024 also became possible, thanks to the upcoming matchup for the EuroBasket qualifiers. Cypriot fans will have the opportunity, during the Cyprus-France game in Nicosia, to be photographed with the historic trophy, which, among others, was lifted by Nikos Galis in 1987, Michalis Kakiouzis in 2005 and most recently by Rudy Fernandez as captain of Spain in 2022.

It should be noted that Cyprus participates in the EuroBasket qualifiers, just like the other three co-hosts Latvia, Poland and Finland, even though all four countries have already qualified for the final tournament as hosts.

Thus, the qualifier matches against France, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia serve as important tests for Cyprus -competitively and organisationally- for the final tournament, which will take place at ‘Spyros Kyprianou’ arena in Limassol between August 28 and September 5, 2025.

The EuroBasket trophy will stay in Cyprus for a few days in November, bringing to the island for the first time the vibes of the major event, nine months before the first jump-ball in Limassol.

On November 21, 2024, at ‘Eleftheria’ arena in Nicosia, as part of the Cyprus-France game, a special event will be organised, while the trophy will be prominently displayed on the floor during the match.

The Cyprus Basketball Federation (CBF) will soon announce details regarding the sale of tickets for the match between Cyprus and France on 21 November.

In addition to the presence at the next official match of the Cyprus National Team, in the days before and after the game, the FIBA ​​EuroBasket trophy will visit the last practice of Christoforos Livadiotis’ national team, as well as the sponsors of CBF and the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 in Cyprus. The trophy will also stop by various landmarks of the island for photo ops.
