Police have called on the public to be extremely careful regarding a new type of online fraud, this time with emails aimed at extorting money from recipients.
Recipients of such emails are warned not to open any attachments or click on any links in suspicious emails.
Police have received several complaints regarding misleading emails, which tell people their computers have been hacked and that they have gained access to online accounts and recorded people watching pornographic content.
In some cases, the emails appear to have been sent from their own accounts.
Police call on the public to be careful and take measures to protect their online accounts, such as activating two-step verification and changing passwords, as well as installing security software.
