Talks over the interconnector were taking place in Athens on Thursday, as President Nikos Christodoulides was meeting Greece’s Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

The tete-a-tete slated for 11am was focusing on the latest developments over the Great Sea Interconnector project, after cabinet’s approval for Cyprus’ participation last week.

Energy Minister George Papanastasiou last week said the government decided it would pay €25 million per year from January 2025 through to December 2029, so that consumers will not be burdened with a possible increase in bills.

Christodoulides is in Athens with his wife Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, where they will attend a dinner with the Cyprus Shipowners’ Association in the evening.

The President is expected to return to Cyprus on Friday morning.
