The full moon, the glimmering sea and melodic tunes. These are the three main ingredients of the annual MoonWalk event in Protaras which transforms the seaside promenade into a massive outdoor stage. Set up along the walking path from Ayios Nikolaos Chapel to Fig Tree Bay, over 30 stages will host 132 local musicians performing all night long, and for free.

The MoonWalk 2024 – Rising Moon Edition takes place just days after the September full moon, inviting locals and visitors to promenade in the moonlight and enjoy a rich range of music genres, bands, ensembles and solo artists. The event this Friday begins at 8.06pm, just as the moon will rise from the sea and until 10pm, live music will sound along the coast.

“MoonWalk 2024 is a cultural event that takes place along a scenic coastal walkway in Cyprus, designed to celebrate the beauty of the moonrise and the local culture,” says Paralimni Youth, which organises the evening. “The event offers participants a unique experience of walking a 6km stretch by the sea, where they can enjoy various activities such as live music performances, stargazing through telescopes, dance shows, and tasting local delicacies from nearby restaurants and food stalls.

“The event emphasises inclusivity,” they add, “as the entire walkway is accessible to people with disabilities. It is not just a walk but a celebration of community, culture and the natural beauty of the area, making it a significant cultural gathering in the region.”

Pedestrians will be able to walk along the coast and stop at the different stages which will host artists simultaneously. From rembetiko sounds to rumba-flamenco music, jazz, swing, rock, Cuban and Greek entechno sounds, the event will feature a varied range of music choices for all types of listeners.
