A 42-year-old man on Tuesday admitted to the pre-meditated murder of Demetris Andronikou, also known as Demetroui in a gangland shooting in April.
The defendant, a Syrian national, made the plea at Nicosia criminal court where the charges were read out.
He will be sentenced on October 15, though a premeditated murder charge comes with a life imprisonment.
Another five individuals are also in detention in connection with Andronikou’s murder since their arrest in May.
Andronikou was shot in broad daylight on April 23 while driving his motorbike. He was leaving Lakatamia police station where he had gone to visit a detained individual.
While on his motorbike in the capital’s Anthoupolis area, another bike approached him with the backseat passenger firing multiple bullets at him.
He sustained three gunshot wounds and died a month later aged 34.
