A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an ongoing police investigation in Larnaca involving charges of carrying a weapon to incite fear, knife possession, assault causing actual bodily harm, threats, and public insult.

According to Larnaca police spokesperson Spyros Chrysostomou, at around 1.35pm on Wednesday, police received a report of an injured person at a restaurant on Athinon avenue, near the Phinikoudes beach area.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found a 27-year-old man with an injury to the palm of his hand.

According to the victim, a disagreement with a 24-year-old colleague, who was off duty at the time, escalated into a physical confrontation.

The younger man allegedly grabbed him by the neck and threatened him with a knife. The victim was injured in the left palm before bystanders intervened, at which point the suspect fled the scene.

The 27-year-old also claimed that the suspect pointed a metal gun replica at him.

Approximately 20 minutes later, officers located the 24-year-old suspect walking nearby. During a search, they found a folding knife and a metal replica gun in his possession.

The suspect was arrested for the offence of carrying a knife and was taken to a police station for questioning.

He appeared before the Larnaca district court, where a case was registered against him, and a hearing was set for 17 October. He was released on bail after posting a €5,000 financial guarantee.
