The kitchen of a hotel room in Ayia Napa was damaged in a fire which broke out on Monday evening, fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis said.

In a post on social media, Kettis said the fire had broken out in a “kitchen utensil” which had been left on the heat in the hotel room at around 10.46pm.

He said the fire brigade had responded, with a “precautionary evacuation” of the hotel already having been carried out by the hotel’s staff before firefighters had arrived on the scene.

In addition, he said, the fire had already been put out before their arrival, but that firefighters discharged a carbon dioxide-based fire extinguisher on the scene and ventilated the bottom two floors of the hotel.

He added that firefighters had also given first aid to the person who was staying in the room, as he had said he was experiencing breathing difficulties.
