The United Kingdom’s King Charles III hailed Cyprus’ “leadership” in promoting marine conservation in his message to President Nikos Christodoulides on Cyprus’ independence day.
“I welcome Cyprus’ leadership on promoting marine conservation, restoration, and sustainable resource management, and further welcome our nations’ shared commitment to tackling these issues and the broader, critical challenge of climate change,” he said.
He also spoke of how he “cherishes” the “close bond shared between our nations”, and added, “I am confident that our ties will continue to flourish in this very special 75th anniversary year of the Commonwealth.”
The Commonwealth, he said, is a “fitting reminder of the enduring values and aspirations that unite us”.
To this end, he said he is looking forward to the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Samoa, which will take place between October 21 and October 26.
“My wife and I would like to take this opportunity to send to you and all Cypriots our very best wishes for the coming year,” he said.
