Already in its second week, the Nicosia International Festival continues to enrich the capital city’s cultural agenda with performances and shows. This week, a vibrant concert by a Cuban band and an exhibition will entertain Nicosians.
Wednesday evening’s concert with the Maykel Blanco Y Su Salsa Mayor band is bound to be the highlight of the week and a much-talked-about performance. Two years after a packed Nicosia Municipal Theatre danced to the rhythms of the Cuban band Septeto Santiaguero from Cuba, the Cuban rhythms of Maykel Blanco and the multi-member group Maykel Blanco Y Su Salsa Mayor return to Nicosia and the festival to bring more upbeat melodies. The music will start at 8.30pm with the multi-member band taking the stage for one night only.
Meanwhile, photography exhibition Face Forward…Into My Home will continue at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre. The exhibition is presented by Nicosia 2030 together with refugees and migrants who were forced to leave their homelands and who are rebuilding their lives in Cyprus. It includes photographic portraits and migrant stories which can be found at the theatre grounds on weekdays (10am-1pm) and one hour before each performance.
The portraits by Yiannis Kourtoglou, are the result of the integration programme that Nicosia 2030 organised in collaboration with the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens and the support of the UNHCR Country Office in Cyprus. Catch it on display until December 31.
