Police have arrested an individual as part of an investigation into forgery and circulation of a counterfeit document at Paphos airport.

According to Paphos police spokesperson Michalis Nikolaou, the incident occurred around 2pm on Tuesday, when a man presented himself at the airport’s departure area to travel to the Netherlands. He presented a Polish residence permit and travel document.

Upon inspection, authorities identified the document as fake. Nikolaou told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the man denied any involvement in the offences. He was arrested under a judicial warrant and placed in custody.

The man had arrived in Cyprus on October 23 on a flight from Brussels, using the same residence permit, which was valid until Tuesday. However, during his departure, the fake document was discovered, leading to his arrest.
