Cyprus aims to build closer ties with Bahrain in aviation, security, and crisis management by making its first appearance at the Bahrain International Airshow 2024.
This new chapter in bilateral relations was formalised through a partnership agreement signed by Cypriot ambassador Andreas Eliades and Bahrain Airshow representatives.
The airshow, held from November 13-15 at Sakhir Air Base, has become a significant global venue for the aerospace and defense industries.
Speaking on the partnership, Eliades said, “Cyprus views Bahrain as a key player in Gulf and Mediterranean cooperation,” noting that this new relationship could bring “opportunities for mutual development and exchange.”
This year’s event was inaugurated by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy King of Bahrain, who emphasised Bahrain’s dedication to economic diversification and its role as a leading host for international events.
A key aspect of Cyprus’ involvement is in search and rescue capabilities, an area where the country excels through its Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), which has established itself as a leader in the Mediterranean.
Eliades expressed that “a partnership with Bahrain could enhance regional crisis response, leading to faster and more coordinated efforts during emergencies,” which he sees as beneficial for both countries in enhancing regional security.
The Bahrain Airshow features more than 125 aircraft from across the world, along with key players in the industry, such as Lockheed Martin and Rolls-Royce.
This year, Valo Aviation launched as Bahrain’s first business jet operator, and IronNet announced a partnership with Asterion for AI-based cybersecurity and counter-UAS technologies to protect critical infrastructure.
This edition of the airshow has drawn participants from Europe, the GCC, and Asia, with numerous attractions for the public, including an aviation museum and festival area.
