Bus drivers in Paphos are to engage in a 24-hour strike on November 25, trade unions Ompege-Sek and Segdamelin-Peo announced on Friday.

The unions resolved to strike during a meeting held on Wednesday, after rejecting a proposal made by the labour ministry to mediate between them and Paphos bus company Osypa in efforts to reach a new collective labour agreement.

The unions said they had made “continuous efforts” to strike a new agreement and expressed their “regret” regarding the inconvenience which will be caused for bus users in the town and the wider district when the strike is going on.

Trade union Sek’s Paphos district secretary Petros Demosthenous said the strike was “inevitable”, but said he hopes a “mutually acceptable solution” will be found to “guarantee bus drivers’ rights” and ensure that buses in Paphos return to normal.
