Paphos police arrested two people on Monday night in connection with conspiracy to commit a felony, burglary and theft, possession of burglary tools and malicious damage.

On November 13 at 10.45pm, an unknown man took a heavily injured person to Paphos general hospital and left without leaving any details.

The police were notified and began investigations.

The 57-year-old injured man – a Greek Cypriot – was taken to theatre and then transferred to Nicosia general hospital, where his right leg was amputated. He is still recovering in hospital.

Paphos police’s Michalis Nicolaou told the Cyprus News Agency that the person who took the man to Paphos general hospital was a 42-year-old Cypriot.

The 42-year-old was summoned to Paphos police on November 14, where he failed to give satisfactory explanations as to how the 57-year-old was injured and was subsequently arrested for providing false information to the police.

On November 15, the 42-year-old was taken before Paphos district court and was detained for three days.

Further investigations and laboratory tests led to the arrest of the two people.

On November 13 at 11.45am, a 63-year-old Greek Cypriot woman reported that her house had been burgled and that the thieves had tried to steal her safe.

Nicolaou said the safe had been moved from the woman’s bedroom on the first floor and was left on the landing.

Evidence was collected from the scene that matched the two men.
