Another exquisite concert staged by The Pharos Arts Foundation is coming up in the intimate setting of The Shoe Factory before the year ends. The extraordinary La Spagna Ensemble will play in Cyprus for the first time on December 4, a concert co-organised with the Embassy of Spain.

Having taken its name from one of the most celebrated melodies of the Renaissance, La Spagna Ensemble was founded by Alejandro Marías in 2009, by bringing together some of the best and historically informed musicians of our times. La Spagna is renowned for its passionate, authentic and sincere interpretations, having appeared in some of the most prestigious concert venues and music festivals in Spain and abroad, and boasting a rare discography of previously neglected period compositions.

As the ensemble prepares to embark on a European tour and complete a collaborative project with contemporary composers aimed at creating a new repertoire for period instruments, it makes a Cyprus stop to introduce local audiences to their sound. Their repertoire next week will include an eclectic programme of Renaissance and Baroque pieces – each with a title that, in its own way, evokes and recalls the allure, the vibrant landscape and the unique spirit of Spain.

La Spagna Ensemble’s sound spans from the Renaissance to early Romanticism, with occasional forays into 21st-century music, but its primary focus remains on Baroque. This diversity is always guided by a single principle: to offer passionate, authentic and sincere interpretations that respect the historical and social context of each repertoire.
