CFA Society Cyprus this week highlighted a series of initiatives led by its president Nikos Potamaris, following the election of its new board of directors in July of this year.
According to an official announcement, the society has strengthened ties with key regulatory bodies, including the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), whose chair participated in a webinar on the ESG landscape.
It has also enhanced collaboration with the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) and secured sponsorships to organise events, discussions, and webinars aimed at deepening financial literacy and market knowledge.
The announcement also highlighted key initiatives, including hosting a discussion titled ‘Bridging the Racial Pension Gap’ under the auspices of the Speaker of the House.
Another significant step is the increase in annual professional development offerings for CFA members from 200 to 300 hours, achieved through a partnership with the European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF).
Monthly newsletters and expanded media presence have also been introduced to highlight the society’s efforts and bolster relations with sponsors and partners.
The CFA Society Cyprus also bolstered its advocacy work through several committees. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, established in 2022, promotes workplace and societal equality, hosting notable events such as the ‘Racial Pension Gap’ discussion.
The announcement also said that Financial Literacy Committee focused on educating young people, delivering financial management presentations to over 3,000 secondary school students since 2018.
A landmark achievement has been the inclusion of financial literacy as a subject in a private school in Nicosia, based on material developed by the University of Cyprus in collaboration with the society.
The Advocacy Committee, the announcement continued, contributes to investor protection by promoting transparency and professionalism in financial markets.
Recently, it played a pivotal role in presenting an EU Action Plan (2024–2029) to strengthen capital markets, integrate ESG criteria, and advance pension systems while addressing the ethical use of artificial intelligence.
Additionally, the University Relations and Equity Research Challenge Committee organises an annual competition for Cypriot university students in financial analysis, supporting the winning team’s participation in global CFA Institute challenges.
