Two people were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning after a fight outside a nightclub in Larnaca.

Police were called to the scene at around 3am, with reports suggesting that a group of around 20 people in the nightclub had “consumed alcoholic beverages” and “began to cause concern”.

This “concern” escalated into a fight, with the club’s bouncers intervening. Their intervention led the fight to continue outside, with some even using clubs and iron bars.

When the police arrived in the area, they found around 15 people near the club, acting aggressively. Some of the group then began “running in a threatening manner” towards the police, with the police firing warning shots with their pistols in reply.

The firing of guns caused the group to flee the scene.

A few minutes later, a police officer found a 29-year-old man hiding in a nearby car park. The man attacked the police officer but was eventually arrested.

Then, a number of people were seen fighting near the club again. When the police returned, most of the people there fled, but the police were able to arrest a 42-year-old man.

Both men appeared in court on Saturday morning and were remanded in custody for five days.

Later on Saturday morning, a taxi driver reported to the police that three young men had asked to be taken to the hotel in which they were staying in Larnaca. He said he had refused because they were drunk, but that the three men had begun to attack his vehicle.

The Larnaca police’s deputy director Harris Hadjiyiasemi said the taxi driver had then called the police, who arrived and arrested the trio. All three are 24 years old, and all three are expected to appear in court on Sunday.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
