The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) on Thursday announced that it will host its first-ever ‘Love Shuttle’ on Sunday, December 8, at the Limassol pier.
The event celebrates the chamber’s 35th anniversary while raising funds for the Pancyprian Organisation of people with disabilities.
Speaking at a press conference, director general Thomas Kazakos explained that the event coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
It includes a 35-kilometre marathon, representing the chamber’s years of operation, and a 3.5-kilometre relay race featuring five children with mobility challenges.
“Each child, with the help of escorts, will cover a distance of 750 metres, passing the baton to the next child, while all of them will finish together at the place where the start will be given,” Kazakos said.
He added that “the relay will begin at 9:45 a.m., with the marathon starting earlier at 7:00 a.m. to ensure all participants finish together.”
Kazakos hopes that “the event will be embraced by the public and will be followed up, with the aim of making it an institution, as part of the chamber’s charity activities.”
The initiative has the support of the First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, and will be attended by Deputy Welfare Minister Marilena Evangelou.
Kazakos also revealed the new logo for the chamber’s charity, branded as ‘Cyprus Shipping Cares,’ which combines the chamber’s initials (CSC) with its charitable mission.
The chamber has a long tradition of community-focused events, including a ship adoption programme for schools, the annual general meeting, the ‘Sailor’s Day’ blood donation, and a charity beach volleyball championship.
