The trial of ex volunteerism commissioner Yiannakis Yiannaki at the Nicosia district court was postponed once again on Tuesday, as the accused appeared in court without a lawyer.
The court set a new date for December 17.
On November 28, proceedings were cut short after Yiannaki’s lawyer, Yiannis Polychronis, walked out following a warning from the judge about contempt of court.
Yiannaki told the court on Tuesday that efforts to find a new lawyer had been unsuccessful so far.
The judge stressed the need for Yiannaki to find a new lawyer immediately.
Proceedings on November 28 had taken a dramatic turn when Judge Nicole Gregoriou cautioned Polychronis that she would enforce strict measures regarding procedural violations if he continued to disregard the court’s time.
Polychronis reacted by stating he could not handle the pressure and requested to withdraw from the case. The court granted his request, and the proceedings were adjourned.
Yiannaki has claimed not guilty to eight charges of forged documents.
