Experts will be entering Paphos’ desalination plant for investigations if deemed safe after the building was cleared out on Tuesday.

Paphos police’s Michalis Nicolaou said the building was still being guarded and there was no danger of Friday’s fire rekindling.

He said once the building was cleared and a civil engineer certified that it would not be collapsing, the experts would enter to investigate.

Officers from various departments had visited the plant on Friday, however it was deemed too dangerous to enter.

The fire, which totally destroyed the plant, appears to have started in a storage room with flammable materials and spread rapidly.
