The European Commission will support the wine sector of Cyprus, permanent secretary of the agriculture ministry Andreas Gregoriou said on Tuesday.
During a meeting of the EC’s High-Level Group on Wine Policy in Brussels policies for the wine sector were approved by the 27 member states.
The three priorities decided on concern the management of the EU’s production potential to adapt to the new conditions of reduced wine demand; strengthening the resilience of the wine sector in a constantly changing market; and addressing climate change, as well as adapting and exploiting market opportunities.
The role of the high-level group is to address the problems and challenges faced by the wine sector caused by climate change, differences in consumer preferences, and the unstable economic and geopolitical environment.
“Cyprus is committed to strengthening the EU wine sector and supports the policy text. Through the focused and flexible implementation of what has been decided at the highest level, the progress sought in the EU wine sector can be achieved,” Gregoriou said.
