As part of the EU’s effort to form a close relationship with young people, Fisheries Commissioner Costas Kadis met on Thursday with Education Minister Athena Michaelidou in a bid to launch a dialogue focusing on Kadis’ portfolio.
“Part of our mission is to organise dialogues on an annual basis with young people and we proposed that next year’s dialogue in the framework of Cyprus’ presidency of the EU be held in Cyprus,” Kadis said after the meeting.
Kadis said youth commissioner Glenn Micallef would be participating in this effort.
Michaelidou assured Kadis that her ministry would be at his disposal and that “we are willing and ready to contribute to the implementation of his action plan.”
Kadis, who served as education minister from 2014 to 2018, said youth issues were “very important” to the European Commission.
He added that the role of education was important in raising awareness and disseminating information “and in this context our wish is to see the analytical programmes in all member states enriched with matters related to the sea and ocean health.”
