Cyprus on Monday shipped 1,200 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza, including food and clothing.
A total of 1,191 pallets were shipped from Limassol port, which will head to Gaza via Ashdod port, according to a foreign ministry announcement.
The aid is a donation from Singapore’s government, as well as “international humanitarian groups based in Kuwait and the US.”
Cyprus’ foreign ministry said the shipment would not undergo additional security checks at Ashdod, and the aid would be distributed in Gaza.
The Amalthea humanitarian corridor is part of the government’s efforts to supplement aid distributions to Gaza’s population, which has been relentlessly bombarded by Israeli forces after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7.
“Cyprus’ infrastructure remains available to the international community to gather, store and safely inspect any humanitarian aid before shipment” the foreign ministry specified.
The route is set for oversight by UN resolution 2720, it added.
