The housing plan offering financial assistance to young couples under 41 has been relaunched with improved criteria, Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou announced on Wednesday. Following a cabinet meeting, Ioannou explained that the revamped plan is more appealing and better aligned with its intended goals.
The online platform for applications is now open and will remain accessible until November 30. In this second iteration of the plan, key adjustments have been made.
The maximum house size has been increased from 100 square metres to 150 square metres, while the requirement for the property to serve as the permanent residence of the owners has been reduced from ten years to five.
Additionally, the gross family income ceiling has been raised by €5,000 across all categories.
Young couples and families are eligible to apply, even if one applicant is over 41 years of age. Grants range from €20,000 to €50,000, depending on family income. During the initial phase of the plan, which ran from November 15 to December 31, 2024, a total of 275 applications were submitted, of which 233 were deemed valid.
These applications have since been forwarded to regional administrations for evaluation.
The minister also highlighted the build-to-rent programme, which has garnered significant interest from the construction sector, with an estimated output of 1,500 housing units.
The renovate-to-rent platform remains open for owners of unused properties, with 277 owners registered and 21 applications currently under evaluation.
Plans targeting remote and disadvantaged areas, including regions near the ceasefire line, have also seen progress. Last year, 262 applications were submitted, with 70 grants approved so far, amounting to a total of €3 million. The remaining applications are under review.
