Makarios Hospital in Nicosia announced on Thursday its plans to expand and renovate its neonatal intensive care unit (ICU).
The project, estimated to cost €6.549 million plus VAT, is set to begin on January 20 and is expected to take 18 months to complete. As part of the renovations, the ICU will gain 26 new incubators, including four isolation wards and intermediate care wards with 24 incubators, all designed to meet approved specifications.
The upgrades aim to “enhance the experience for both parents and their newborns, making it as comfortable as possible”, according to a press release by the state health services organisation (Okypy).
During the works part of the hospital parking area will remain shut and the Strovolos Municipal Sports Centre space may be utilised, Okypy said.
Okypy expressed its thanks to the Miracle Babies Association for its ongoing support of Makarios Hospital, including its contributions to this project, and to the Municipality of Strovolos for providing access to the adjacent parking area.
