A ruling by Paphos district court in favour of the Republic of Cyprus is binding, regardless of the decision issued by an Athens court for the temporary prohibition on fulfilling the two guarantees for the Paphos-Polis road project, sources have said.

All relevant decisions are being handled by the Law Office, the sources told the Cyprus News Agency.

On Thursday, the Athens court of first instance decided to temporarily prohibit the payment of both guarantees – advance payment and project execution credit – until the case is tried.

The sources said that, regardless of the Athens court decision, the Republic of Cyprus had the binding decision of the Paphos district court for the disbursement of the advance payment and the pending judgement for the disbursement of the project execution credit.

On November 25, 2024, Paphos district court had overturned an appeal by the contractor, Intrakat, which sought to prohibit the liquidation of a €6,791,000 advance payment by the government.

It also dismissed a request by the contractor to disallow government officials access to the Paphos-Polis road construction site.

Meanwhile, the public works department announced it was expediting the preparation of new tender documents for the first phase of the Paphos-Polis road, following the termination of the contract with Intrakat.
