The Mayor of Paphos, Phedon Phedonos, welcomed the French Ambassador to Cyprus, Clélia Chevrier Kolačko, at the municipal hall today. The ambassador was accompanied by her team, and the meeting focused on exploring new opportunities for collaboration between the municipality and French institutions.
The discussions revolved around the potential for partnerships in higher education, innovative research and technology, and entrepreneurship at a regional level. Both parties emphasised the importance of fostering ties to boost mutual growth and development.
Mayor Phedonos highlighted his vision for diversifying the city’s economy beyond tourism and real estate. He stressed the municipality’s commitment to building infrastructure that supports education, research, and technology. This effort, he explained, aligns with Paphos’ broader goal of becoming a hub for innovation and business.
“The municipality of Paphos is dedicated to forming effective and robust international networks,” Phedonos stated.
He pointed to the regional network of universities and cities, established in June 2023 under his initiative, as a prime example of this mission.
Both the mayor and the ambassador expressed satisfaction with the work being conducted in Paphos by the Avignon University Archaeological Mission, which has been active in the city since 2008. This initiative has received consistent support from local authorities.
The meeting marked a promising step towards strengthening ties between Paphos and France, paving the way for impactful collaborations in key sectors.
