A new 84-month contract worth €1,887,065 for the water refinery at Asprokremmos will increase the plant’s capacity by 10,000 cubic metres per day, within a period of 12 months.

The contract was signed by the Water Development Department and the ministry of agriculture, for the supply, installation and maintenance of the active carbon filter system for the expansion of the water refinery.

The filters improve the physicochemical parameters of the quality of water produced by the refinery, by removing the smell and taste produced primarily by organic compounds in the water and by removing disinfection byproducts.

The water in the refinery comes from Asprokremmos reservoir, which supplies the urban and suburban area of Paphos, from Kouklia to Ayios Georgios Peyia, with 30,000 cubic metres per day.

When the extension is completed, the system will increase the plant’s production capacity to 40,000 cubic metres per day.

The project is funded by the EU in the framework of the recovery and resilience facility.
