Monday’s weather will be cold and cloudy with afternoon rains. and a chance of storms in the south and west, bringing snow or sleet in the mountains. Temperatures will rise to 15C in the interior, the west and the north coasts, 17C on the remaining coasts and 3C in the higher mountains, where frosty conditions will prevail. Winds will be north-westerly to north-easterly, weak to moderate, up to 4 Beaufort, and on the windward coast, up to strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough.

Overnight will be partly cloudy with local showers and a chance of light snow in the higher mountains. Temperatures will drop to 4C inland, 7C on the coast, and -2C in the higher mountains bringing icy conditions. Winds will remain north-westerly to north-easterly, weak to moderate, up to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain slightly rough.

Tuesday and Wednesday will continue cloudy with isolated rains and storms expected and snowfall in the higher mountain areas with similar conditions forecast for Thursday.

Temperatures will hold steady close to seasonal norms.

The height of the snow, at 5am on Monday, was 13cm in Troodos Square and 10cm on the highest peaks of Troodos.

Police closed the main roads leading to Troodos on Sunday afternoon due to the weather conditions and congestion caused by visitors.

Roads from Platres to Troodos, Karvounas to Troodos and Prodromou to Troodos at the time of publication are open only to vehicles equipped with snow chains or four-wheel drive.

In the Morphou area the roads from Kalopanagiotis to Moutoullas, Pedoulas to Prodromos, Prodromos to Lemythos, Kakopetria to Pinewood to Pedoulas, Kakopetria to Karvounas and Pedoulas to Kykkos to Kampos, are also only open to vehicles equipped with snow chains.
