Conservation works have officially commenced at the historic mosque and cemetery in Tochni, the UNDP said in a post on X, hailing the project as “a crucial step in preserving the cultural and historical identity of the region.”

Built in 1910, the site features a rectangular design with a pitched roof. A stone staircase, which once functioned as a minaret, remains a distinctive feature of the structure.

Key interventions will include cleaning of surfaces and removal of organic growth, structural repairs, including grouting, repointing and masonry consolidation, roof conservation and waterproofing, staircase conservation, drainage improvements, deplastering and repainting, internal floor maintenance, timber element conservation, minaret preservation and cemetery repair works.

The project is undertaken by the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, funded by the EU and implemented by the UNDP.
