A large-scale police operation in Paphos on Friday night resulted in multiple arrests, the seizure of untaxed tobacco products, and several traffic violations. The operation, led by the district’s police chief, Kleitos Erotokritou, involved 60 officers from the Paphos police.
According to the assistant police director for operations, Michalis Nikolaou, the operation took place between 5pm and 11pm, aiming to prevent road accidents, tackle crime and strengthen public safety.
During the six-hour crackdown, officers stopped 184 vehicles, searching 50 of them. They also frisked eight pedestrians and inspected four premises suspected of being used for illegal activities.
As a result, police arrested two individuals for possessing a prohibited knife and a gas-discharge device. Another person was taken into custody after officers discovered untaxed tobacco products at a property, 75 cartons containing 10 packs each and 12 packs of industrial tobacco weighing 45 grams.
Additionally, loudspeakers were confiscated from two premises playing music without a licence, while ten computers suspected of being used for illegal gambling were also seized. In total, 24 drivers were fined for various traffic offences.
Police have confirmed that similar operations will continue in the future to maintain law and order in the district.
