House speaker and Disy president Annita Demetriou emphasised the need for Greece and Cyprus to navigate geopolitical developments wisely to ensure the survival of Hellenism. She made the remarks on Tuesday following the student parade commemorating Greece’s March 25 Independence Day, held outside the Greek embassy in Nicosia.
Demetriou highlighted the unifying power of the national holiday, which marks both the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and the 1821 revolution.
“Reflecting on the pivotal moments of our nation’s history, we recognise the responsibility we bear,” she said. “Greece and Cyprus must move forward together, correctly interpreting geopolitical shifts to safeguard the future of Hellenism.”
She added that this also means resolving the Cyprus issue within the agreed-upon framework.
“Warm wishes to Greece and to all Greeks,” Demetriou concluded, extending her congratulations to the students who participated in the parade, saying that they once again filled everyone with pride.
