Former president Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday continued his testimony before the Anti-Corruption Authority, marking the second consecutive day of his appearance in the ongoing investigation into allegations raised in Mafia State, a book by journalist Makarios Drousiotis.
Anastasiades said that his book, O Sykofantis (The Slanderer), which aims to respond to the accusations, has been submitted to the authority’s committee. However, he stressed that the book “speaks for itself, but it is not enough on its own.”
He added that he fully respects the committee and will accept its findings.
“I said it yesterday, and I will repeat it today: what continues is the dismantling of slander, fake news and obsessive views.”
Anastasiades had also commented on Monday that the process marked a day of “decisive importance,” as, in his words, it began the exposure of populism, nihilism and vindictive journalism.
The former president was accompanied both days by his lawyer Achilleas Emilianides. The hearings are part of the authority’s broader inquiry into corruption claims made against the former administration.
Anastasiades is expected to return for further testimony on Wednesday and Friday.
