The customs department on Tuesday announced the seizure of over five tonnes of pesticides which originated in China after finding that they had falsely labelled as having been made in the European Union.
They said that last week, they had visited a warehouse in Limassol to inspect goods being imported from China which were set to be transferred into a container destined for Libya.
The pesticides were being stored in a total of 513 boxes and that they were labelled as “Made in EU”, despite the fact that the manufacturer and supplier of the products is based in China.
The customs department said the circulation of products in question are prohibited in the EU, while the instructions for the products’ use was in Arabic, given that they were destined for Libya.
The products were seized, the container in which they were due to travel was sealed, and any movement in and out of the warehouse has been prohibited.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
