In a celebration of Cyprus’s agricultural heritage, farming organisations PEK, EKA, Panagrotikos, and Euroagrotikos will host an event on Sunday, May 4 at the Community Bank of Cypriot Traditional Seeds in Kalopanayiotis.

The event will highlight the history of Cyprus’s native seeds and the vital role they have played in the island’s survival and cultural identity. Special attention will be given to traditional crops such as lupins – a legume that sustained local communities during wartime, when other crops were seized – underscoring the resilience and self-sufficiency made possible by local agricultural practices.

In addition, nature trails in the Kalopanayiotis area will be open to the public during the event, including the Ayios Ioannis path, which had been closed for over 50 years and is now accessible once again.

The programme will also feature live music, traditional dance, and Cypriot cuisine, offering visitors an immersive introduction to the island’s rural and farming traditions.
