Greek retail chain Jumbo Group this week reported a significant increase in store sales across Cyprus and Greece for April 2025, continuing the upward trend seen earlier this year.

Specifically, sales at Jumbo’s Cyprus stores rose by 7 per cent in April compared to the same month last year. This brought total sales growth in Cyprus for the January–April period to 6 per cent year-on-year.

Across the group, April sales increased by 5 per cent, while sales for the first four months climbed by 7.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2024.

Management attributed part of the fluctuation in sales performance to the timing of Easter, which this year fell on April 20, compared to May 5 last year.

This earlier date shortened the holiday shopping window and made year-on-year comparisons less straightforward.

Last year’s extended Easter season had allowed for greater consumer uptake of seasonal and summer items, a trend not mirrored to the same extent this spring.

Nevertheless, the company expects demand for summer products to pick up in the coming two months, aided by the longer summer season.

Jumbo’s management remains cautiously optimistic, saying a clearer picture of the group’s performance will emerge after the first half of the year.

They added that, given the uncertainty in global retail markets, the company will continue to take a careful and measured approach as it works towards its strategic goals.

In Greece, the parent company’s net sales, excluding intercompany transactions, rose by 4 per cent in April.

Cumulatively, sales in Greece for the first four months of 2025 were up 8 per cent year-on-year.

Bulgaria reported flat sales for April, with a modest 1.5 per cent increase for the four-month period.

Romania saw strong performance, with sales, both in stores and via the online platform by 10 per cent in April.

Overall, Romania’s sales for January to April were up by 7 per cent compared to the previous year.

The Jumbo Group currently operates 89 stores, 53 in Greece, 6 in Cyprus, 10 in Bulgaria, and 20 in Romania.

Additionally, through commercial partnerships, Jumbo has a presence in seven countries, Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Bosnia, Montenegro, and Israel, with 40 stores under the Jumbo brand.

Earlier this month, Jumbo signed a commercial cooperation agreement with the Fox Group for exclusive rights to open stores in Canada. The first store is expected to open in the second half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

In Israel, where Jumbo already operates three stores under the Fox Group agreement, two more superstores are slated to open by the end of 2025, bringing the total to five.
