As part of her latest exhibition Newcomers at Minerva Hotel in Platres, Maria Loizidou presents a one-night-only performance at another location – Limassol’s Rialto Theatre on Saturday. Titled What Happens To Me Is Written Up There, the performance is free to attend, with open access between 7 and 10pm.

In this new version of a performance first staged in 2022, Loizidou reimagines the quiet intensity of pencil drawings and reflective texts within the space of a theatre. Fragile lines stretch beyond the page, becoming a visual language of shared experience, memory and vulnerability.

The performance acts as a living archive — an attempt to sync personal gesture with collective memory, and to explore whether drawing can serve as a vessel for social history. With Loizidou’s characteristic sensitivity, the event invites the audience to view drawing not just as a visual practice, but as a method of storytelling that belongs to everyone.

Alongside the performance, a series of workshops is proposed to extend the archive and encourage further engagement. The aim is to place our collective thinking at the heart of understanding public life, identity and shared pasts.
