Publicly exposed individuals and officials required by law to submit an asset declaration known as ‘pothen esches’ – ‘where did you get it from’ – will have to do so by June 30, the Tripartite Council assigned to oversee the process said on Wednesday.

The law regulating ‘pothen esches’ for publicly exposed persons came into effect on February 28 and those required to submit the declarations are obliged to do so online on the council’s website.

Those who already submitted their declarations over the past 24 months do not have to do so.

However, officials leaving a post must submit their asset declaration four months after the expiry of their term.

There are two categories for the publicly exposed individuals and officials, which are listed in annex I and II of the law.

Annex I includes permanent secretaries, directors of departments, municipal officials, community leaders, the police and army chiefs, commissioners, parliament senior officials and members of authority boards.

Annex II includes the government spokesman, the directors of the president’s office and press office, the cabinet secretary, Central Bank top officials, the attorney-general, auditor general and treasurer-general, certain party senior officials, mayors and district governors.
