In the framework of the painting exhibition by Rinos Stefani and Sumer Erek at Limassol Municipal Arts Centre, running until 31 May, Lemesos 2030 hosts a roundtable discussion with art theorists Gabriel Koureas and Esra Plumer, preceded by a tour of the exhibition on Wednesday, May 28.
Exploring themes of identity, memory, and human experience, Stefani’s ‘Human Targets’ confronts violence and trauma, while Erek’s ‘Embodied Moments’ delves into the intersections of body and space. Together, they offer a compelling dialogue on contemporary issues.
Titled ‘Art in Cyprus: A Conversation on Trauma, Unresolved Grief and Contested Narratives’, the roundtable in English will bring together the theorists as well as the artists themselves and Ellada Evangelou from the Lemesos 2030 team.

The discussion aims to generate conversations around the arts in Limassol, and Cyprus in general, and question if and how they have been defined by trauma and unresolved grief through personal narratives that challenge the contested histories of the island. Special emphasis will be given to the role of the human figure and their traumatic experiences in the work of the two artists.
The evening will begin at 6.30pm with an exhibition tour with the artists. Then the roundtable discussion in English will run from 7.30pm to 9pm. What’s more, for those interested in attending the event from Nicosia, a bus will depart from Ledra Palace checkpoint for Limassol at 5pm, return at 9.30pm. A seat on the bus can be reserved online at Google registration form.
