The municipality of Dromolaxia–Meneou strongly rejected claims made against it on Monday regarding the management of beaches in the Pervolia area, describing the comments as “malicious, defamatory and unfounded”.

In a public statement, the municipality said it was outraged by what it called a targeted campaign to damage the image of its beaches. Officials insisted that all coastal areas are being developed for public use and not for private interests.

“Some cannot tolerate the fact that these beaches are improving and will continue to be developed with accessibility for everyone,” the announcement read.

“The beaches are for all, not private use, and the claims being made are intended to harm the municipality’s reputation.”

The municipality stressed that the development of the beaches follows approved legal procedures.

“There are legitimate agreements authorised by the Cyprus land development corporation, and relevant processes are under way through the appropriate government departments,” it said.

Authorities accused certain individuals and parties of trying to block these procedures for their own reasons.

“Some are attempting to sabotage and undermine progress by making misleading claims on television,” the statement added.

Municipal officials also said that local residents support development in their area, and warned that no one will be allowed to stand in the way of plans to improve the coastal front. The statement concluded by confirming that the municipality’s legal adviser is examining the case, and that legal action for defamation and/or libel may be taken against those responsible.
