Held between April 7 to June 4, the 10th Ayia Napa international sculpture symposium ended recently after hosting 15 artists from eight countries who created a total of 27 works.
“For another year, the area was transformed into an open art workshop, with the sculpture park hosting the artists for two months, while visitors had the opportunity to watch the creative process,” said a statement from the Ayia Napa municipality.
The municipality named this year’s symposium “a milestone in innovation”, seeing as it was the first year implementing three participation periods lasting 20 days each from April to June.
Artists created sculptures made from Cypriot stone, inspired by the themes of “Man and Nature”, “Greek Mythology”, “Man and the Sea” and “Man and History”.
The symposium featured Iranian artists Bahman Chegeni and Razmjoo Sepideh, French sculptor Coralie Quincey, Ukrainian sculptors Mykola Lampeka, Lyudmyla Mysko and Yuriy Mysko and Armenian sculptor Tigran Harutyunya.
Three contributors from Russia also took part Mikhail Sobolev, Olga Sagakon and Dalgat Dalgatov. Polish artists Wiktor Kopacz also participated.
Cyprus was represented by Andreas Kattos with the work “Viewpoints” and Christina Mina with “Galaxy Mosaic”, while Greece was represented by Alexandros Baibourtidis with the work “Wedding Ring”.
“Ayia Napa continues to be a leading tourist destination which at the same time stands out as a vibrant hub of culture, history, and contemporary creativity with a dynamic presence in the international art scene,” Ayia Napa mayor Christos Zannetos.
“Guided by our vision and love for our place, we are building a municipality that stands out – a strong, resilient, and innovative municipality that highlights its authenticity and natural beauty and honors its cultural identity, offering visitors an inspiring and unforgettable experience,” he added.
Zannetos expressed a dedication to support and develop the symposium, naming it an “international benchmark in the field of sculpture”.
The sculptures created during the symposium will be displayed in the sculpture park and in central locations throughout the municipality of Ayia Napa, accessible to all visitors.
