Cyprus saw a sharp rise in the registration of saloon passenger cars in May 2025, with the figure reaching 3,715, up 11.7 per cent compared with May 2024.

This was also notably higher than April’s 2,924 units, according to data published by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat).

During the first five months of 2025, registrations of saloon passenger cars dropped by 5.5 per cent to 16,224, from 17,176 in the same period last year.

Of these, 6,874 vehicles, 42.4 per cent, were new, while 9,350 were used cars, making up 57.6 per cent of the market.

In terms of fuel type, petrol and hybrid vehicles continued to dominate, accounting for 43.7 per cent and 42.9 per cent of registrations respectively.

Meanwhile, electric vehicles saw a modest increase in market share to 4.7 per cent, up from 3.4 per cent in the same period last year.

By contrast, diesel-powered cars continued their downward trend, slipping to 8.8 per cent from 10 per cent.

Out of the total 16,224 saloon passenger cars registered between January and May this year, 13,927 were private vehicles.

Toyota maintained its lead overall with 2,784 registrations, followed by Mazda with 1,687.

Nissan recorded 1,240 registrations, Kia 976, while BMW completed the top five with 953. Other popular brands included Mercedes (875), Volkswagen (666), Hyundai (560), Honda (531), and Audi (394).

When it comes to new cars, Kia led the market with 949 registrations. It was followed by Volkswagen (560), Nissan (525), Hyundai (519) and Toyota (493).

BMW (393), Mercedes (331), Jeep (284), Renault (282), and Audi (243) rounded out the top ten.

Used saloon cars continued to dominate the Cypriot market, accounting for over half of total registrations in the first five months of 2025.

Toyota retained its top position with 2,291 used car registrations, closely followed by Mazda with 1,653.

Moreover, Nissan recorded 715, while BMW and Mercedes followed with 560 and 544 respectively.

Other notable brands included Honda (484), Land Rover (214), Suzuki (167), Audi (151) and Lexus (123).
