The Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade in Cyprus increased by 8.4 per cent in May 2025, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, according to the state statistical service.

For the same month, the Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade saw a rise of 10.0 per cent when compared to May 2024.

Looking at specific economic activities within the Turnover Value Index for May 2025, food, beverages or tobacco in non-specialised stores (supermarkets) recorded a value index of 141.3, representing a 10.4 per cent change compared to May 2024.

Food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores had a value index of 150.5, with a 13.1 per cent increase from the previous year.

Automotive fuel showed a value index of 117.8 but a decrease of 5.6 per cent compared to May 2024.

Information and communication equipment registered a value index of 107.9, up by 1.4 per cent.

Other household equipment, including construction materials, carpets, furniture, electrical appliances, and lighting, had a value index of 126.1, increasing by 11.2 per cent.

Cultural and recreation goods, such as books, stationery, sports equipment, and toys, recorded a value index of 96.7, with a modest 0.7 per cent rise.

Clothing and footwear achieved a value index of 145.1, showing an 8.4 per cent increase.

Pharmaceuticals, orthopaedic goods, and cosmetics reached a value index of 120.5, an increase of 9.4 per cent.

Flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, optical goods, and second-hand goods had the highest value index at 201.6, reflecting a 10.9 per cent increase.

Retail sale not in stores recorded a value index of 117.1, with a substantial 21.9 per cent increase.

For retail trade except of automotive fuel, the value index was 139.1, marking a 10.0 per cent increase.

Edible goods, combining non-specialised and specialised food stores, had a value index of 143.6, up by 11.1 per cent.

Non-edible goods, encompassing various categories from information and communication equipment to second-hand goods, showed a value index of 134.0, an 8.8 per cent increase.

Overall, the Retail Trade, Except of Motor Vehicles, had a value index of 136.8, an 8.4 per cent rise for May 2025 compared to May 2024.

In terms of the Turnover Volume Index for May 2025, food, beverages or tobacco in non-specialised stores (supermarkets) had a volume index of 120.1, increasing by 9.2 per cent.

Food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores recorded a volume index of 121.7, with a 6.3 per cent rise.

Automotive fuel’s volume index was 108.2, showing a 2.9 per cent increase.

Information and communication equipment saw its volume index reach 127.6, up by 9.0 per cent.

Other household equipment had a volume index of 112.9, an 11.4 per cent increase.

Cultural and recreation goods showed a volume index of 88.3, with no change (0.0 per cent).

Clothing and footwear achieved a significant volume index of 141.9, rising by 14.7 per cent.

Pharmaceuticals, orthopaedic goods, and cosmetics had a volume index of 111.7, up by 5.8 per cent.

Flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, optical goods, and second-hand goods recorded a volume index of 174.1, a 10.5 per cent increase.

Retail sale not in stores had a volume index of 109.1, with a substantial 23.2 per cent increase.

For retail trade except of automotive fuel, the volume index was 123.0, a 10.1 per cent increase.

Edible goods showed a volume index of 121.2, up by 9.5 per cent.

Non-edible goods had a volume index of 124.9, an increase of 10.8 per cent.

Overall, the Retail Trade, Except of Motor Vehicles, had a volume index of 121.4, reflecting a 10.0 per cent increase for May 2025 compared to May 2024.
