The Limassol district government (EOA) has signed an agreement with the centre of excellence Eratosthenes to develop a database and a geographic information system (GIS) for the organisation, the former announced on Monday.
The project will run for 25 months and is part of EOA’s wider strategy to modernise and digitise its infrastructure and processes.
The authority is responsible for major water and sewerage infrastructure in Limassol district and for issuing related permits.
GIS systems will support the planning, mapping and processing of spatial data, helping the authority make informed decisions on large infrastructure projects and the district’s overall sustainable development.
The EOA said the agreement marks a milestone in its transition to a new era of technological upgrading and digital maturity.
The planned GIS will serve as a daily operational tool and provide a platform for new technologies, including artificial intelligence applications, advanced analytics, and enhanced digital services for citizens, authorities and professionals.
The deal was formalised on November 20 by Limassol district governor Yiannis Tsouloftas, general director Socratis Metaxas, and Eratosthenes CEO Diofantos Hadjimitsis, in the presence of senior staff from both organisations.
