The Cyprus International Business Association (CIBA) has joined the European Confederation of International Trading Houses Associations (CITHA), in a move it said would strengthen Cyprus’ presence in Europe’s international trade network.
CIBA, which represents internationally active businesses operating from Cyprus, said “the membership is expected to open up new prospects for Cypriot companies with international activity, through closer cooperation, the exchange of know-how and participation in European initiatives aimed at supporting open and competitive markets.”
In a joint statement, CITHA president Jan Kruckemeyer and CIBA president Vasilis Demetriades said CIBA’s accession reflected a shared commitment to strengthening international trade cooperation in Europe and supporting businesses operating in global markets.
They added that “closer cooperation between European trade associations and internationally active companies could help bolster Europe’s competitiveness and reinforce its position in the global trading system.”
For Cyprus’ international business community, CIBA said “the move would create fresh opportunities for cooperation, knowledge-sharing and participation in European initiatives aimed at improving the resilience and competitiveness of international trade.”
The association added that “the collaboration is also expected to reinforce Cyprus’ role as a bridge between Europe, the Middle East and other international markets, drawing on the island’s strategic geographical position.”
CITHA, which represents associations of international trading houses and companies active in global trade, promotes cooperation among its members and supports a strong European international trade ecosystem.
For CIBA, the move is in line with its broader aim of promoting international entrepreneurship, enhancing business competitiveness and strengthening Cyprus’ position as a reliable business and trade hub.
