Twelve cats have been found brutally beaten to death and the incident has been reported to the police by the CopsCats animal welfare group.

The group said the dead cats had then been thrown into bushes, bins and even the sea. Many others that the group looks after are missing.

Cats2It said a witness saw a young Cypriot-looking man (20-25 years old) kill two cats at the Cat Café behind the Goldfish restaurant and toss them in a bin around 7.30pm on New Year’s Day. Five cats were also killed in front of and next to the Palm Beach Hotel.

The group believe the same person has been killing cats over the last week.

Anyone who saw something suspicious between the Forest Beach and the parking lot next to the Palm Beach Hotel is asked to message the group on Facebook.

If dead cats are found in the area, the group has called on people to report them to the police on 24 804250 but not to touch or remove anything from the scene.

“Needless to say, we’re heartbroken and desperate to catch this man before he kills again. If you know anything or see anything in the days to come, please message us. And please share this post,” CopsCats said.

The cats were part of a colony under the care of CopsCats who provide them with food on a regular basis.

In addition to the police, the group has also informed The Animal Party of what happened.
