Coronavirus: four deaths and 573 new cases announced on Wednesday (Updated)

The health ministry on Wednesday announced four deaths from Covid-19 and another 573 cases through a total of 10, 201 PCR and rapid tests.

The deaths concerned four men, two aged 76, one aged 79, and one aged 69. Only the latter did not have underlying health conditions, the ministry said.

This brings total deaths from Covid to 138 out of the total 25,781 people found positive since March.  The deaths include 93 men and 45 women with an average age of 80.

Of those who died the 79-year-old was being treated at Famagusta hospital after being transferred from a care home in Larnaca.

One of the two 76-year-olds was also from a care home.  The other two died at Nicosia hospital.

187 patients are being treated at hospitals 49 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 49, 25 are intubated.

Of the 10,201 labs tests processed, 3,057 were PCR and 7,144 rapid tests of which 285 positives resulted.

Through PCR, 178 cases came from contact tracing, one from passenger checks, 80 through private testing initiatives, 5 from GP referrals, 18 from hospital lab testing and 6 from 21 tests done on the basketball and volleyball federations.
