Eight remanded over Pournara clash

Eight persons arrested in connection with the clashes between migrants at the Pournara reception centre on Monday have been remanded for eight days, police said on Thursday.

The clashes on Monday evening between Syrians and Africans, led to the injury of 35 people and serious damage to the centre’s infrastructure. Police intervened and managed to break up the fight after calling in reinforcements. Several cars were damaged, some belonging to police and some to other services.

Police said that arrets warrants were issued on eight persons after securing testimonies concerning the incident. They were arrested on Wednesday and taken to court to be remanded.

The interior ministry said on Tuesday that in cooperation with the police, it was going through the footage of the closed-circuit surveillance system to investigate what caused the clashes.
