A beginner’s guide to sustainable fashion – four key ideas

In this video, we learn four main ideas that are the foundation of an eco-friendly wardrobe.

  1. Wear: make sure you’ll actually wear and get a lots of use from new clothes, commit to at least 30 wears!
  2. Quality: buy clothes that will last, and definitely avoid anything that looks likely to fall apart or wear out after a few washes.
  3. Care: look after your clothes (patch and mend!), so they last longer, and commit to eco-friendly maintenance choices, like colder washes, handwashing and air-drying.
  4. Next Life: what happens to your clothes when they can’t be worn anymore or you’re done with them? Don’t just throw them away. Textiles can be recycled, and garments in good condition can be given away.

It’s worth keeping in mind: a sustainable wardrobe doesn’t have to cost the earth.
